HDF is a machine-independent data format and software library for representing scientific data. The HDF software was developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

NetCDF (network Common Data Form) is a machine-independent data format and software library for representing scientific data. The netCDF software was developed at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado.
