Work-Study in High Performance Computing. Posted November 1, 2004. The Earth System Modeling Facility (ESMF, http://www.ess.uci.edu/esmf) has an opening for a work-study student to help with a Distributed Data Analysis and Reduction project (http://www.ess.uci.edu/~zender#prp_sei). The initial tasks focus on packaging existing free software applications into Debian-compliant packages (debs). The skills required include knowledge of the GNU toolchain, development procedures with CVS and Make, and Debian Linux. Future work will involve installing, maintaining, and benchmarking an OPeNDAP server for high performance computing applications. Hours are flexible and can be adjusted to accomodate class schedules. If you are interested in this opportunity, and you believe you are eligible for UCI work/study, please send a 1-page resume in PDF format with subject line "ESMF Work/Study Position" to Professor Charlie Zender . Include your student ID, declared major (if any), and year in UCI.
